Montana Hiking and Backpacking Excursions
Hyalite Creek Trail: This trail can be found just south of Bozeman, Montana. This is a nice moderate hike along the upper part of Hyalite Canyon to a little alpine lake called Hyalite Lake (not to be confused with Hyalite Reservoir). The trail starts at about 6,800 feet and parallels Hyalite Creek the entire way. Several beautiful waterfalls can be seen from the trail and there are others you can get to by taking short spur trails. Excellent views can be had of Hyalite canyon especially once you get near the top. After about 6.5 miles you come to Hyalite Lake which sits in a horseshoe shaped basin with jagged peaks behind it. The elevation of the lake is about 8,900 feet. Due to the elevation, this trail usually isn't clear of snow until June.
